About ACC
Aegina is a beautiful island in the Saronic Gulf, just off the coast from Athens. Our human population is about 15,000; and our feline population is about 10,000 (it's a very rough estimate; no one has ever tried to count).
Although only recently registered officially, the ACC members have been working to trap, neuter, and release the cats on the island for decades. Learn more about our dedicated volunteer team here.

Meet the Cats
Meet a few of the cats you'll be helping with your support to Aegina Cat Care
Nikos
Nikos is one of the cats lucky enough to live in Souvala. ACC is working to neuter all the cats - if a cat has a clipped ear, then one of Aegina's cat carers has gotten it neutered!
Alexandra Margaritis' shop is Souvala's cats' cafe. Lots of Souvala's cats hang out here or just pop in for a meal and drink when they're feeling peckish. Alexandra has a food and water station for all hungry and thirsty cats in the neighbourhood and the word has spread. Soula's house also has a good reputation amongst Souvala's felines - cats say that Soula is a really good human to stay with. Delease and Sandy Kalimnos are also excellent cat servants (so the cats say)
Fergus
Fergus, who had cat flu when he was a tiny kitten. It caused him to lose his eyes. He lives in Messagros.
In Messagros, colonies have shrunk because caretakers have been trap, neutering and releasing for many years. Street cats, neutered and well cared for by Pareskevas, Vanessa, Natasha, Sandy and others, grew old gracefully and, with no new kittens to replace them, the Messagros village is a success story. It will, we hope, be a stray free zone once the currant strays have lived their lives.
GPS
GPS has a strong personality. He originally muscled his way into a small colony of cats in Sfendouri, displacing other cats. When the Perdika volunteers took him to be neutered, GPS was not happy and escaped before they could bring him back to the colony. He eventually found his way back to Sfendouri - walking about 15 kilometers to get home. He's now living his best life!
The Perdika team takes care of over 120 cats, feeding them daily and trying to ensure that they are healthy. But it's a lot of work and they all have jobs in the shops and restaurants. Many of Perdika's cats hang out at the fish tavernas along the promenade, but there are also colonies in other parts of Perdika and up the hill past Sfendouri. This team has done incredible work; please consider supporting them.
Daisy
Daisy is one of four kittens found abandoned. We found them when they were very small. ACC neutered their mother and then ensured that Daisy and her siblings were neutered and vaccinated. A lovely volunteer in Agia Marina now feeds them.
The team in Agia Marina is called "Needy Cats." If you're lucky enough to be an Aegia Marina cat you'll have the Needy Cats team looking out for you. Needy Cats have feeding stations all over the village, and any cat who needs help is cared for. Needy Cats has done a great job of raising funds to have cats sterilised (and not only the Aegia Marina cats- but other island cats too) fed and treated when they're in poor health.
Wendy
Wendy lives in Vagia. She was very frightened of people and poor Wendy had many litters of kittens, that she was struggling to care for. The Vagia team really struggled to catch her; they tried so many times, but ended up stratched and making Wendy more frightened. Eventually one of the volunteers who was feeding her and her kittens was able to gain her trust and trap her. Wendy is now spayed (you can see her ear is clipped - that's what the vets do so that we know which cats have been sterlized) and much more able to take care of herself. She still doesn't trust people, but she's now much healthier and more comfortable.
Many kind Vagia locals have taken care of Vagia's colony for many years, but they were struggling when it came to finding the means to have the Vagia colony sterilised and to buy food for the burgeoning population. All were happy and relieved when some newcomers to the island pitched in to help; wiht ACC, they ran a successful project, aimed at raising funds to trap, neuter and release Vagia's lovely cats prevented the colony from burgeoning out of control.
Valentino
Valentino lives in Aegina town. He was a street cat who was found by a shop keeper and ACC volunteer. Valentino was fed and watered by a few of the shop keepers in the port throughout his life - he was sterilized and vaccinated, too. Later, he developed domatitus, a common cat disease. The shop keeper took him to the vet and ensures he gets regular medication. He's now an older cat with kidney problems, but he's comfortable and loved, thanks to the kindness of volunteers.
Aegina town cats are very chilled dudes. In the summer time they find the coolest spots and just have siesta's all day long. Some of them pop down to get a fish or two for breakfast, lunch or dinner from an owner of a stall at the fish market.
